Book Reviews
Close To Famous
I loved reading 'Close to Famous"! It was clean and not all lovey-dovey. It's hard to find good books like this. The author, Joan Bauer, is an amazing writer. This book is very easy to identify with.
The main character, Foster, has a problem with reading. She just can't do it. It's sorta like a form of dyslexia. But she has a wonderful talent to bake cupcakes. After some rough times, her mom up and moves them to a little town in West Virginia called Culpepper. And, let me tell you, Culpepper has quite a few problems itself. Throughout the book, we learn, with Foster, about a lot of different things... happiness, sadness, falling down, and picking yourself up again. I would love to tell you more but you'll just have to read it yourself.
Starring Sally J. Freedman as Herself
Starring Sally J. Freedman as Herself is a book about a fifth grader named Sally Freedman. Her family moves to Miami beach in the winter of 1947. Her head is filled with many intriguing things. "One minute she is a famous actress or a brilliant detective; next she meets the Latin lover of her dreams-her classmate, Peter Hornstein." With a head for adventure, she gets gets herself into some trouble here and there.
I think that i would recommend to an older audience. Just because there is mention of kissing and other things of that sort. One small example, is that she signs her letters 'Love and other indoor sports', though she doesn't know what it means. Personally, i wasn't that fond of it.
The Romance Reader
I enjoyed the first little bit of this book. It is not a book that i would recommend at all!!! I was blown away by the things that they say in this book. It's crazy! I'm actually pretty disappointed. I was so into it then it just went South. I had to just stop mid-book cause it was so bad.
It is about a Hassidic girl who is not happy with all of the rules she has to follow. She starts rebelling. The book goes through her life from 13 yrs old to about 18 yrs old. And though all it she lies to her parents, becomes a lifeguard, and a lot of other things. They talk about things like intimate things. I really don't recommend it.
