Hanukkah

As the days pass, I find myself getting more and more excited for the holiday season. We are in the midst of it now and i'm looking forward to spending time with my family. The first night of Hanukkah is tonight, opening the first gift. I am not the kind of person who goes all out for the holidays. But i do enjoy it. Isn't it fun to think about all of those gifts!? But of course, it's not all about the presents. Let me tell you this story......
The story of Hanukkah is amazing. It blows me away every time i hear it. The Greeks were trying to take over the holy temple a long time ago. They came in and ruined the temple and started putting up their own statues of their gods. The Jews were forced to bow down to the Greek statues. Everyone obeyed... everyone but a group of men called the Maccabees. These men made a plan to take back their holy temple. And they succeeded. They won! But the sad thing was that the Greeks had messed the place up. Everything was scattered. They needed pure oil to light the menorah but all of it had been spilled and was no longer pure. 'What are we going to do?' asked everyone. Then, suddenly, they found one, single bottle of pure oil that has been spared. But it was only enough to last one day. And it took eight days to make more oil. Miraculously, the one jar of oil lasted eight days.  Isn't that amazing!?
